Nemian is a small contemporary dance group that was formed to create an interdisciplinary piece for which the music was especially composed. The work was called "Nemian" (Nemian received a special grant from FONCA 1994). After this beginning the dancers remained together.
The common objective for the groups members has been the enthusiasm and spiritual growth that comes from doing something new and different each time they set a piece;
For Nemian dance is in essence a song to life. This song can manifest itself in a thousand ways and in the most diverse themes, provided that there is honesty in the feelings, clarity in the intention, and a clean execution.
Abiding by this principle the group has been distinguished by its variety, originality, and creativity. The members use a solid academic dance basis combined with personal movement experimentation, and sometimes include non dance techniques (such as stilts, yoga, singing.)
Nemian has a repertoire that includes 40 minutes pieces as well short ones. It has programs by various young Mexican choreographers such as Luis Gabriel Zaragoza and Ruby Tagle, or foreign choreographers such as Deana Carter (U.S.A.), Rodrigo Fernández (Chile) Arturo Garrido (Ecuador). The repertoire is constantly changing.
The group has performed in Mexico's most important theatres. Nemian has toured Ecuador, Peru, Canada, Cuba, Colombia, Germany and the in the U.S.A it has been in New York.
